The Eggemoggin Reach Regatta began humbly in 1985 with thirteen wooden boats and a dream. Organizer, Steve White, together with Frank Hull of Brooklin Boatyard first envisioned the race as an opportunity for wooden boat owners to get together and enjoy each others' company as well as to compete. The race quickly grew to 125 boats and is now co-hosted by Brooklin Boatyard and Rockport Marine. The Regatta's 15-mile course has remained the same for many years, and only once was the race cancelled due to fog. (The party still happened though!) The Camden Feeder Regatta and the Castine Classic Yacht Race soon joined the ERR to create a truly spectacular three-day event.
This year we are excited to have Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish playing some rockin' dance tunes.
2008 REGATTA CHANGES:
- We are currently SOLD OUT of dinner tickets for the Saturday night dinner.
- The skippers meeting has been moved to 8:30. We hope to get the first start off a tiny bit earlier this year.
- The starts this year will be at 10 minute intervals. This means that the starting gun for the first start will be the 10 minute warning for the 2nd start and the start gun for the 2nd start will be the 10 minute warning for the 3rd start and so on and so forth. A more lengthy description will be in your skipper packs.
- We have decided to split the Spirit of Tradition Class into two divisions, SOT A and SOT B. The division will be made by the race committee based upon entrants, but the idea is to get the smaller SOT boats to start earlier with other smaller boats, and to enjoy the race more by sailing with boats more similar in speed. There will be first, second and third place trophies for each of these classes
- We are bringing back the Gaff and Schooner Class. This class will have its own start and its own 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies.
- The committee Boat for 2008 is the Jacob Pike.
